Jumia Sales Grows Amidst Coronavirus Pandemic

Uganda leading online marketplace Jumia has registered impressive sales growth despite Corona virus pandemic that has hit most sectors of the economy.

According to Jumia Uganda chief executive officer Ron Kawamara, Jumia online orders have more than doubled since most clients are locked down.

“although we have no official figures right now we have received more orders from private sector and government ministries bids as they import health commodities,”he added.

He made the revelation on Wednesday while donating 35,000 boxes of face mask to national Corona virus task force at the ministry of health.

Kawamara said the donation will support Frontline team at the ministry of health, staff and referral hospitals in combating commodity constructs and increase service provision.

Jane Aceng health minister thanked Jumia to adhere to government appeal for support to scale health intervention.

She pledged increased service provision at health centre’s to combat Corona pandemic.
Aceng however urged local companies to start manufacturing of these commodities to beef up commodity supply market saying if these products were manufactured locally this would address  commodity shortage.

Jumia has offered ministry of health all logistical services for all the imported products.
