Ndovu Motors the sole distributors of Mahindra tractors and cars in a drive to promote mechanization of agriculture is demanding for government incentives and tax waiver tax levied on tractor components such as trailers to boost commercial farming and food production.
Ndovu Motors Marketing and Communication Manager Asiimwe Shamim says although they are promoting and advocating for mechanization of agriculture as private sector players current tax on tractor components and lack of incentives has hindered their tractor sales penetration in the market
“Besides promoting mechanization of agriculture in Uganda government has not come out directly to support our business by purchasing our tractors yet we sale world leading tractor Mahindra brands. We also don’t see taxes waived on tractor components and infrastructure development like road in rural areas where we supply our tractors to farmers,”Asiimwe said.
Jose Akarra Ndovu Motors General Manager asked for joint venture with government and capitalization of Uganda development bank to save farmers and private sector from high interest rates offered by commercial banks.
“We appreciate the president for promoting mechanization of agriculture through mother ministries purchasing tractors, however we wish the government to wave off tax on tractor components to make if affordable for more Ugandans embrace commercial farming purchase from us to support our brand penetration in the market ,”he said.
Through Ndovu Motors, several marketing and brand awareness drives has been planned to promote Mahindra tractors and cars in Uganda starting March and discounts for more Ugandans purchase
