Police in Soroti today (19/8/2020) at around 0400hrs carried out an information led operation and arrested Obwalatum Micheal aged 22 years, a resident of Acetgwen Parish within Soroti City and Egadu Kenneth aged 32 years, a resident of Cell D, Moruapesur Ward within Soroti City who were seen offloading suspected stolen cattle.
On seeing the police patrol vehicle, they attempted to drive off but were intercepted at Kichinjaj Ward. The Vehicle Reg. No. UAV 649 E was driven to Police.
A search in the vehicle was conducted, a toy pistol was recovered and spare tyres smeared all over with fresh cow dung. Holding charge of theft of cattle vide SD Ref. 05/19/8/2020 has been preferred against them pending possible amendment after legal guidance from the RSA. Cattle rustling is a common habit especially in areas where there large numbers of cattle, something that gives sleepless nights to the livestock owners.
‘Possessing a toy guy in crime should be crime too..because if you point that thing at me, I won’t know anything about it’s being a toy other than wetting my pants,’ Samuel commented.
