The duo bossed the 10,000m clinching the gold and bronze medal respectively. Cheptegei posted a time of 27:27:43 while Kiplimo posted 27:27:93.
Kenyan Stanley Mburu came in the second position. The competition is going down in Eugene, Oregon in the United States of America at the Hayward Field.
Social media is already in a congratulatory mood for the Ugandan duo. Cheptegei put up an outrageous speed in the last lap. The same was for Kiplimo who beat Ethiopia’s Barega in the last lap.
“Joshua Cheptegei goes for gold!! Congratulations champion,” the Ministry of Education and Sports tweeted.
Cheptegei becomes the champion of the world
“Yes!! Yes!! 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐎𝐍. Joshua Cheptegei is the champion of the world posting 27:77:43 time as Jacob Kiplmo came third. Perfect revenge to Ethiopia’s Solomon Barega at Oregon,” a social media user said.
Cheptegei becomes the 4th man to win back-to-back competitions in the category of 10,000m. The other three are Kenyan, Eliud Kipchoge, Ethiopia’s Abebe Bikila and East Germany’sWaldemar Cierpinski.
This time was however not enough for Cheptegei to beat his own record of 26:11:00 that he recorded in Valencia two years ago.
Cheptegei has gone on to cement his name in the world of athletics as one of the greatest runners of all time.
The time posted by Kiplimo is his seasonal best in the 10,000m. As has always been the major plan. Stephen Kissa, another Ugandan paved way for Cheptegei who took over as the race got heated up.
That’s why everyone can see that Uganda has really dominated in the World Athletics Championship.
