Government Finalizes Plans For Assembling Buses In Uganda

President Museveni yesterday revealed how the government had finalized plans to start producing buses in the country.

According to the President, these will help to ease transport in the massively populated Kampala Metropolitan Areas.

Mr Museveni revealed how they arrived at this conclusion during a meeting with KCCA leaders, line ministers and the company responsible for producing these buses, Metu Zhongtong Bus Company.

“I met stakeholders, line ministers, KCCA executives, and leaders of the Metu Zhongtong Bus Company. I am happy to note that we have finalized plans for the company to assemble and manufacture buses to ease transport needs in the greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.” The President tweeted.

In October 2020, thr President issued a ban on the importation of buses.

The President added that Uganda had the capacity to produce these buses for the local market.

Therefore, this saw Chinese automotive company Zhongtong go into a joint partnership with local businessman Metu Katabazi to form the Metu Zhongtong Bus company.

The assembling plant of this company is in Namanve industrial park.

This is not the only bus manufacturing company Uganda has as there is Kiira Motor Corporation (KMC) in Jinja.

Kiira Motors has already produced two buses which have been in business already in Kampala.

The company expects to start producing the buses in bulk once their set-up is complete.

Consequently, this is one of the ventures the president has been calling for all along, self sustenance among African countries.
