Gathering at Bukungu Primary School in Buyende District, hundreds of subjects commemorated the 10th coronation anniversary of Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV. The event exuded grandeur and pomp, reflecting a decade of strong leadership, unity, and cultural pride under the Kyabazinga’s reign.

The celebratory activities were diverse, but the boat race on Lake Kyoga stood out as a major highlight. Winners of the race were rewarded with a bull and cash prizes totaling shs2.5 million, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.

Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV, accompanied by his wife Jovia Mutesi, arrived at the Bukungu Primary School playground amidst jubilant ululations from the subjects.

The Kyabazinga’s performance of a royal drumming ritual upon his arrival symbolized his dedication to preserving Busoga’s rich cultural heritage.

During the event, First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga seized the opportunity to urge the people of Busoga to unite in petitioning President Museveni to address the issue of the UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit’s presence in the lakes, a longstanding concern in the region.

Kadaga promised to raise this issue directly with the president during his upcoming visit.

Reflections on progress and gratitude

In his address, Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV reflected on the significant achievements made during his ten-year leadership, expressing gratitude to his subjects for their unwavering support.

He emphasized the kingdom’s progress in infrastructure development and called upon the youth to strive for personal growth and contribute to Busoga’s advancement.

The event marked a pivotal moment in the reign of Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV, celebrating his steadfast commitment to upholding Busoga’s traditions while spearheading growth and progress within the kingdom.

His ascension to the throne in 2013 brought an end to a five-year period without a king following the passing of the former Kyabazinga, Henry Wako Muloki, in 2009.
