LYANTONDE: Stolen Items Worth Millions Confiscated In Police Raid

Lyantonde district police on Monday carried out an operation where they raided a shop dealing in electronic appliances. The operation led to the confiscation of assorted merchandise valued in millions of shillings.

The shop the police raided is located along Kooki Road in Lyantonde town council, Lyantonde district.

The confiscated items include CCTC cameras, computer monitors, printers, speakers, generators, microphones among other items. The police revealed that these had been stolen from within the districts of Lyantonde and Kiruhura.

Mr Douglas Kiwanuka, the officer in charge of Lyantonde police station revealed the results of this operation. He also said it followed multiple calls from individuals who had lost their property to thieves.

“In Kiruhura, one of the residents registered a case of missing hair salon equipment. Another, a case of a missing public address system was reported by the management of Nyakahita Church of Uganda. Our detectives managed to arrest the suspect and he took them to a shop where he regularly sells stolen items, both suspects are in our custody,” he said

He also revealed how the owner knew that the items were stolen as he bought them.

Kooki road Cell III chairperson, Mr Emmanuel Sagala said the police also arrested the shop owner, who is the prime suspect. He also added that the prime suspect has a big racket of thieves he refers to as his “agents”.
