Man Commits Suicide For Being Served ‘Meal’ Without Dried Fish (Omena)

A family in Kakamega County, Kenya experienced shock on Monday night after their dad took his life for being served a meal without ‘Omena’(small dried fish).

The elderly man of sixty years old committed suicide using a sisal rope inside his bedroom.

During an interview with K24 TV on Tuesday afternoon, the deceased’s wife identified as Khahoya Mary mentioned that her husband was served with a meal without the small dried fish (Omena), which had gotten finished.

The deceased who was used to eating Ugali, together with Omena and sukuma wiki as his favourite food was this time around expecting to be served with the same meal, but unfortunately, it was served without Omena.

He reportedly asked his wife why he didn’t see omena included on his meal, she simply answered him by saying it was finished.

He just left his food on the table and went to the bedroom. I picked his omenaless meal and took it to him, he asked again why omena was missing on his omenu, I just told him that omena was served to other family members before he returned home, he found when it’s finished,’said Mary.

She said after she was done with her house chores going to sleep, she accidentally met the dead body of her husband hanging with a sisal rope.

I was very shocked and quickly suspected that he committed suicide following the anger of being served omenaless meal,’ she added.

The deceased’s body was taken to Kakamega Referral hospital mortuary and police have begun investigations into the incidence.
