Meseum activists under their umbrella organisation,The Community Meseum Association are calling for special fund for the protection of various meseums in the country.
Addressing media ahead of international meseums day slated for 18th May at Uganda Meseum, they argued that the fund once set up will boost research, training needs for community meseum care takers and promotions.
“We appeal to government to allocate a fund specifically for community meseums. These funds will support a research and documentation to enhance knowledge base of the community meseums,” Abraham Kitaulwa the association chairperson said.
They pledged to build dialogue with stakeholders in meseum conservation and promotion in schools and community level so that meseums are protected.
Currently there are 35 registered community meseums country wide however public knowledge about importance of Museums conservation as source of tourism is still low.
Cross cultural foundation of Uganda Non Governmental Organisation appealed to Uganda Tourism Board for close partnership to promote culture and tourism together if community museums are to remain relevant to the youth.
