Uganda’s president, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni challenged the Catholic church to stop begging foreigners, but instead to acquire a spirit of hard work, economic growth and a good retirement plan amongst them.
The message was sent through the Vice president, Ssekandi Edward over the weekend when he gave a speech during the installation of the new overseer of Lira Catholic Diocese, Bishop Sanctus Linos Wanok in Lira town.
In history, churches in Africa used to look for foreigners for support. The only alternative now days is to work hard to create income generating projects,’’ said president Museveni.
President Museveni advised the Catholic church to keep preaching about economic prosperity to the congregation.
On several occasion, I have been advising our Christians to adopt a spirit of hard work in order to support our own religious institutions, this can’t be acquired when many of the believers are still in extreme poverty,’’he said.
